2018 Jr Canadian Champions Crowned

May 15, 2018

The 2018 Jr National Championships wrapped up in Spruce Grove, Alberta this past weekend with some dynamite action on display in both male and female divisions that showcased a bright future for the Canadian handball stars of tomorrow.

In the men's division it was Alberta 1 delivering dominance as they went undefeated throughout the competition with key victories over a resilient Saskatchewan side and then in the final over silver medalists Alberta 2 on Sunday by a 44-16 score. Kenneth Brayford and Jarrett Zilinski were key parts of the Alberta 1 machine with each of the dynamic duo notching an impressive 32 goals each.

Although the silver medal isn't what he was hoping for, Eric Erdell will have some consolation as he wins the Golden Arm with his outstanding 37 goals in the competition.

The women's portion of action was just as exciting if not more with great maches throughout the weekend.

Alberta 1, led by a sensational Dawn Song, delivered key victories on Friday and Saturday earning their spot into the championship match. Quebec executed key victories over Saskatchewan and Alberta 2 to book their ticket to the final. A key reason for that was due to the gritty performances of Laurie Lacasse and Dylane Tremblay who scored 34 and 32 goals respectively throughout the competition.

The championship was a tough battle between the rival provinces but it would be the hosts that emerged victorious with a 32-21 win to hoist the 2018 Jr Championship.
