Vancouver Cup a big hit for Pacific region handball

November 22, 2017

The Vancouver Handball Cup recently wrapped up at the beautiful Richmond Olympic Oval, home of the 2010 Winter Games. Canadian and American teams from all across the Pacific Northwest came to participate, showcasing further growth of handball in the United States and Canada.

The men's final featured a great match between rival cities Seattle Handball and hosts Vancouver Handball Yellow that was very tight throughout the match. BC native Pierre Becquart did what he could for the home side by notching 10 of his tournament leading 35 goals. But it would not be enough in this game as Seattle's Benjamin Scheiner scored an impressive 13 himself to help the American club win the championship by a 24-21 score.

The women's final was contested by local clubs Vancouver Red and Vancouver Blue. Natsumi Takizawa led the charge for Blue with five goals to keep them within reach as they were only down a goal at half time. However, Red turned up their offensive a notch in the 2nd half with the dynamic duo of Lydia Kuhnert and Krista Hilge scoring five and four goals respectively en route to a 19-13 victory.
